SWY16 - Nippon Maru - Ship Description

1st Floor
This is where all the luggage rooms are. Each delegation has one of these rooms where they can store luggage and other items. The rooms also have a TV with DVD player, it also has a fridge. So there are definitively possibilities of watching a good movie and have a drink if you are tired of having people around you all the time. It is maybe the only real quiet spot on the ship. Some people has also called it Hotel California where people sneak their girl/boyfriends at night.;-)
2nd Floor
One of the areas you have to visit every day if you want to eat something else than vending machine food(see third floor description), because this is where the Dining Hall is located. They serve hot food three times a day, buffet style. You enjoy eating the food watching the sea through the windows. If you're lucky you will pass the Maldives for breakfast. The laundry room for the boys is also located at this floor, together with telephones for international calls. By the way, there is no internet connection on board.
3rd Floor
This is where the administration desk is located and where all messages are posted. This is also where you have to turn in all kinds of forms of application. The third floor also houses the girl's dormitories. The rooms are small but nice and have fridge and DVD player. Normally you you don't spend too much time in the rooms, but they are nice for relaxing and fiestas with your friends. The grand bath is also situated on this floor. This is a traditional Japanese “hot spring” with sauna. It is really a nice and relaxing experience and is recommended warmly by the Norwegian delegation. Especially by Aleksander. The vending machines are very popular on the boat. This is where you buy your late-night noodles, drinks, beer (!) and ice cream. Please don't fall asleep in front of the vending machines as it makes it hard for other to use the facilities.
4th Floor
Finally you reach the floor where you can step outside on the ships deck. You can walk all around the ship on this floor and is good for walks and running. This is also the floor for the dormitories of the boys. Normally all participants share room 3 and 3. The dolphin hall is in the back of the ship. This is where most morning assembly's (gathering with all participants in the morning), national presentations, parties, activities etc are held. There is a good sound system, DVD player, projector and other technical appliances here.
5th floor
Coming higher up you reach the area for the shop, library and the Japanese-room. The shop is normally open just some hours a day, so be alert about the opening hours. They sell some basic things such as drinks, postcards, sweets and souvenir's. The library is nice to relax and do some work if you need to do so. There is also a beauty salon here where you can get your hair cut etc.
6th floor
The site of the Bar, Piano lounge, Mermaid saloon and the sports deck. The piano lounge is nice for big gatherings in the evening and meetings during the day. The bar is only open some hours during the evening. The sport deck is outside and wonderfull for football, basketball and other sports.
7 th floor
The pool is situated at the lido deck. It is in-door, but the roof is pulled back at sunny days. The pool is not practical for swimming, but is really nice to cool down on hot days.
8 th floor
The SUN deck, is the best place to chill out during the day and night. Watch the incredible stars, watch the sun set in the afternoon or sun bathe in the chairs during lunch hours.
