SWY16 - Fighting Hunger on Board
One of the UN's Millennium Goals is to eradicate poverty and hunger by 2015. The participants of SWY16 do not suffer from poverty, but we surely need food.
The battle against hunger on board is fought with great enthusiasm. Every day insatiable troops of World Youth gather in "the Dining Hall" for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Thanks to skilful cooks and service minded crew we have had many culinary adventures during the trip.

Crocodile, reindeer, raw fish and snails
- All meals are served buffet style, says Japanese participant Sae Matsubara. The Japanese cuisine is dominant. Traditional Japanese dishes such as sashimi (raw fish) and miso soup are common, but you can also find curry, pasta, white bread and salad. - We have eaten food from all over the world on board, says Ariel Acosta from USA. - Among the more exotic dishes are kangaroo, reindeer and ostrich. I am not saying this to please you, but my favourite food on the boat is actually the Norwegian salmon. I always have a big plate of salmon when it is available, continues Ariel with a drooling smile.
Making friends over a plate of oxtails
- Is it true that you eat guinea pigs in Peru? Marni from New Zealand is pointing at her Peruvian dinner date Oscar. - Yes, of course we do. That´s an old tradition from the highlands. Don`t you eat it in New Zealand? Replies Oscar. - Err, no! Don´t be offended, but I´d feel like I was eating a pet, like a cat or a dog, explains Marni. - Really? Hmm. I`ve never thought about it like that. But what about the oxtails they are serving today? That is strange food to me, sais Oscar. Marni bursts into laughter. She has ten of those tails on her plate.

"The Dining Hall" is a large restaurant seating 300 persons. On both sides of the hall you can view the sea through large windows.
